Regional Award for Vice Chairman

Our Vice Chairman Jon Green has received a Regional Award for his volunteering.

Jon was presented with the accolade at the British Gymnastics South East Region Annual Awards ceremony held at Betchworth Park Golf Club in Dorking on 23^rd June.

Jon started volunteering in 2005, the Year of Volunteering, when he responded to an online appeal for more volunteers to help out at Gymnastics events in Kent.

He was appointed as Event Announcer for General Gymnastics competitions and went on to become involved in the Executive Committee of Kent Gymnastics Association.

He then joined Dover Gym Club and was elected on to the management committee where he takes on responsibility for the website and GymMark.

He was also part of the team that developed the new Floor & Vault criteria that is being used across the SE region, and was instrumental in getting the Kent Floor & Vault competitions up and running in 2008.

His dulcet tones can regularly be heard at a range of competitions including Acro, Women's Artistic, General Gymnastics, Swifts Open and the Dover Open.

Jon said: "It was nice to get an award in recognition of the work I put in as a volunteer, but in reality I am just one of many many people who give up hours of their time in different capacities to keep the sport running."

"It's rewarding to be able to put something back into my local community and it is all worthwhile when you see the effort made by gymnasts, and the enjoyment they get from their sport." He added.
