Medal success at Kent Championships
Thirty nine gymnasts from Dover Gym Club's Floor & Vault Squads took part in the Kent Championships recently and more than half came back with medals!
The competition was held at Whitstable Gymnastics Club, the first time they had hosted such a large event, which, with more than 400 competitors, ran over two days.
All the weeks of training really paid off for the Dover gymnasts who achieved between them: six Golds, seven Silvers and seven Bronzes!
General Gymnastics in Kent is split into six different levels, starting with introductory for gymnasts aged 6, Novice, Intermediate, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Dover was one of 16 Kent clubs to take part in the competition and did very well in all categories entered, with those who didn't achieve medals finishing in respectable places.
Coach Fern Parnell said: "Our Floor and Vault Squads go from strength to strength and all of our gymnasts performed well. I am very proud of them and it is a fitting reward for all their hard work and determination.
"I would also like to pay tribute to all our Floor and Vault coaches who put in hours and hours of their own time every week to develop the gymnasts. One of our volunteers, Alison Martin, was also responsible for organising the competition and did a fantastic job as there was a record number of entries." She added.
The next big date in the Club's calendar is 18th July when it plays host to the Dover Open which will include gymnasts from as far away as Hastings and Tunbridge Wells taking part in a floor & vault competition.
