Great gymnastics and great atmosphere for Dover Open 2010



A total of 118 gymnasts from eight different clubs headed to Dover on Sunday 18 July for Dover Gym Club's annual Girls Open Floor & Vault competition.

Clubs from as far away as Hastings and Tunbridge Wells made the journey to the Kent Coast to compete against each other under Kent's general gymnastics criteria.

There are six competition levels starting with 'Introductory' which is for children aged 6 and their first major competition, through Novice, Intermediate, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

This was Dover Gym Club's second competition of the year as hosts, having run a successful Boys' Floor & Vault event in April. The club will also be hosting a Bars & Beam competition in October.

Coach Fern Parnell said: "The Dover Open is one of the highlights of our year. We're one of only a few Kent clubs to hold open competitions for general gymnasts and people often tell us they love the atmosphere at our events as we like to make them fun.

"Our Floor & Vault squad have been very successful this year and all their hard work has certainly paid off at the Dover Open with no less than 14 medals including five Golds. This follows the recent county championships where they also achieved an impressive medal haul.

"Now the competition season has finished for the summer our floor & vault squad will still be training but can have a break from the strict discipline of the competition criteria. Many of our Floor & Vault squad members will be attending our Summer Camp from 2^nd to 6^th August where they will be developing skills but having fun at the same time. They will also be meeting gymnasts from other clubs who are also taking part."
